Abraham Lincoln

Posted June 11th, 2009 by Luke

This is the second large piece made for my show “American Nostalgia”

There were 7 people who said Abraham Lincoln for their response to the survey.

That is only 1%.  But considering that there were only 4 answers given more prevalently that is a large percent. Abe came fourth to Pie with 21, Fields with 13, Park with 12 and Flag with 9. Out of roughly 700 answers, it still amazes me that there was such a small overlap.

Lincoln
Here is the image that I used.

There are a few images of him to work from, but most don’t show much humility.
There are a lot of pictures of him that show a great deal of sternness. In keeping with Photography of that era most of the images that are not paintings show a countenance devoid of his recorded humor and modesty.

I chose this one to work with because it gives us a greater sense of the man as I understand him from his biographies.

Here are a few images of the process.
As you can see I made the Lincoln first then the back ground to put him on, so I didn’t have to work with an entire quilt while sewing minutia.

finished Abe
