Wearable Collections:

Posted January 19th, 2010 by Luke

While I was in New York this last time I met with a group that takes used clothing and either sends it to used clothing stores for resale or makes rags and batting out of the fibers.

They agreed to let me take some of the clothes to make quilts with. I think using fabric that has a story behind it gives my work another dimension.

They set up booths in the Green Markets all around New York.

They take any textile, linens, shoes, clothes or fabric and sort it into usable or recyclable pieces to go back into use.

often the clothes become rags for local restaurants or batting

[the difficulty was getting the material back to my studio here in Seattle]

The group can be found at their website or at the weekly markets around NYC.
