I made the first project to showcase the how-to and to get an idea of how easy/difficult the project would be.

the whole thing took me a day, including the video.

Since I have a landscape architect/architect living with me for the summer I get the pleasure of being invited along on adventures to interesting spots around Seattle.

This is a spot to visit!

the Bloedel Reserve is a wonder of landscape architecture.
For anyone who thinks landscape architecture is all about topiary and strategic shrubs take an afternoon stroll out on Bainbridge Island.
[and eat ice cream at the local shop. its SO good!!!]

It arrived in a daunting 9 box spread and took a bit of engineering to get together, but now that its up I have had not a single bit of trouble with it.

I have started a project with an artist who works with bar codes.

Scott Blake:
http://www.barcodeart.com/

We have started to design a project with the new QR codes.
the codes marketed towards smart phones.
where using apps on the phone you can get the information from the code, be it text or a phone number or a url.

i started to experiment immediately:

[This meant taping a code to a sweater and seeing if it could still be read.]

Then I digitized a code to see if it could be read once it was translated into thread.

It read it fine.

The next step is to make a full scale quilt out of a code.

though that may have to wait till I finish my current show.

in the interim take a look around Scott’s site.

I had the pleasure to spend an evening with Joey Veltkamp at his studio at Seattle U.
He has been taking advantage of his residency bu hosting bimonthly artist run salons at the University.
This last night was hosted by artist Gretchen Bennett, a local artist the evening was inspired by Marc Camille Chaimowicz’ installation Celebration? Realife.

we drew pictures of disco balls and drank port wine.

Its a good to get to know artist in the area, and get a feel for whats going on in Seattle, now that I am here to take it over.

That Says tiranny not tranny. There was some eventual confusion.
