Perfect timing for the 4th of July, a flag Quilt project

Posted July 5th, 2010 by Luke

I have been wrangling a flag over the past few weeks.
I wanted to unvail it in its doneness but since the timing is so right.
thought i would post a teaser to show what the process has been:

I think its important to note my car for scaler dimension.
[I realize the travesty of laying a flag on the ground, but this flag is far too large to be measured or seen on any floor or surface I know of. it's 20 feet by 30 feet. It was purchased at the goodwill bins and salvaged from being turned into scraps. i think making a flag out of it is a better fate and the few moments on the ground will be made up for as its displayed with pride across the country in all the best museums...[hint hint hint]]

A tart from a tart.

Posted June 21st, 2010 by Luke

Dont tell her I said that.

Maggie lost a bet about something that I dont remember, and the stakes were high.
A tart was to be made for the winner.
Heres my tart.
[because I won....]
[Woot]
[Woot]

Oh, and it was super delicious!
The crust was home made and dark chocolate coated for freshness then topped with an almond pastry cream and then the mountain of fresh fruits you see there then glazed with home made strawberry preserves. The rim Blackberries were dipped in the same dark chocolate.

all in all a delight to behold and to ingest.

made crayons…from crayons

Posted June 21st, 2010 by Luke

Here is a little fun project that Maggie and I made a few months ago.
And I am only just now getting around to posting it.

Go Marketing Mondays!
From crayons:

using this hot glue melter [genius]

this empty Airborn Bottle worked the best:

Note how the colors were poured in so that they would reveal as the super crayon is used.

here is how it looked coming out:

It makes for some awesome embellishment.
I think one melted in my glove box however…so my sunglasses are embellished.
Who needs a Bedazzler? Not this guy!

More work on Benji

Posted June 21st, 2010 by Luke

Here are a few shots of how the sewing is going.
This piece has lots of little pieces and due to the nature of the quilt all of them are skewed to be little strips.
Here is an image from right on top of the head:

and here is a shot from the side approximately where you would want to be to see it clearly:

Oh ya. I live in Seattle

Posted June 14th, 2010 by Luke

Thought it may be good to post a little note about where I live.
Seattle.
Its turning summer here. Finally!
Here is an image of the studio that I am working out of right now:
[took me way longer to make it than it should have.]

Its a garage, which is awesome because I can open one of the walls when the weather is nice.

Red tumbling blocks

Posted June 14th, 2010 by Luke

Here is another project made from clothes into a quilt top waiting for the image to be appliquéd on top.

Here is my studio assistant wading through the pile of reds that will become the top

cutting the clothes into usable pieces:

cutting the pieces into strips to be sewn into the top:

Assembling the pieces into blocks:

the blocks into the whole:

the finished top: [Maggie for scaler reference]

QR code Blazer

Posted May 13th, 2010 by Luke

My last trial with the Qr codes was with digitized embroidery.
Now I wanted to make something a little more hands on and in a bit larger of a scale.
so I put a code on the back of my sports jacket.

It doesn’t read either from the misalignment in my placement this time or the contrast isn’t enough.

Either way I look pretty BA.
dont you think?
